Darvocet 100 mg is used as a pain relief medication for mild to moderate pain. Darvocet 100 mg tablet belongs to the opioid drug class. Darvocet-N 100 orange oval pill contains propoxyphene- an opioid, and acetaminophen- a central nervous system stimulant.
When you visit the doctor to get a prescription for Darvocet medication, you should inform them about your medical condition because, in some medical conditions, the use of Darvocet 100 mg is prohibited, these are sleep apnea, or other breathing disorders, liver or kidney disease, a stomach or intestinal disorder, suicidal thoughts or behavior, and asthma.
When you are taking Darvocet 100 mg avoid some medications like clarithromycin, nelfinavir, nefazodone, amiodarone, amprenavir, ritonavir, ketoconazole, itraconazole, diltiazem, erythromycin, fluconazole, fosamprenavir, grapefruit juice, and verapamil. If it is taken with agents that induce CYP3A4 activity may reduce the efficacy of propoxyphene. Severe neurologic signs, including coma, may occur with simultaneous use of carbamazepine and Darvocet. Increased risk of bleeding has been observed with warfarin-like agents when given along with Darvocet because it contains propoxyphene. If Darvocet is prescribed with narcotic analgesics, general anesthetics, phenothiazines, other tranquilizers, sedative-hypnotics, or other CNS depressants like alcohol, it may exhibit additive CNS depression effects resulting in respiratory depression, hypotension, profound sedation, or coma. When it is prescribed in combination then the dose of one or both agents should be reduced.
